Retreat

The meditation master Ven. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso explains: ‘On retreat we stop all forms of business and extraneous activities so as to emphasize a particular spiritual practice. There are three kinds of retreat: physical, verbal, and mental.

We engage in physical retreat when with a spiritual motivation we isolate ourself from other people, activities, and noise, and dis-engage from extraneous and meaningless actions; we engage in verbal retreat when with a spiritual motivation we refrain from meaningless talk and periodically keep silence; and we engage in mental retreat by preventing distractions and strong delusions such as attachment, anger, jealousy, and strong self-grasping from arising, and by maintaining mindfulness and conscientiousness.

If we remain in physical and verbal retreat but fail to observe mental retreat, our retreat will have little power. Such a retreat may be relaxing, but if we do not prevent strong delusions from arising, our mind will not be at peace, even on retreat. However, keeping physical and verbal retreat will help us to keep mental retreat, and for this reason Shantideva, in Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life, praises the first two kinds of retreat.’ (Excerpt from his book "Guide to Dakini Land")

A Retreat at Phuket Meditation

creates insight and experiential understanding regarding the nature of mind and meditation. Our guests spend their time with scheduled activities aiming at creating peace and healing from within. During a retreat they internalize meditation and spend their time with focused efforts that create a powerful learning experience.
We offer quality guidance and keep the groups limited to only 3 people at a time or closed groups as well as families.  This way we avoid distance to our meditators and help them to establish deeper, more authentic experiences. Our retreats follow the principle of solitary meditation. Guests receive instructions and internalize them in deep silence.
This retreat is not for people who solely depend on guided meditations. Guided Meditations are often a part of our morning meetings though. There they aim to create an understanding of the sessions nature. We don't use audio equipment, DVD's or external media to induce a state of meditation. We instead rely entirely upon a correct effort of mind which is able to create the desired outcomes in whatever environment. Our guests are independent meditators while our team at Phuket Meditation makes sure that everyone gets exactly what they want by  offering a 24 hour SOS support, high quality authentic guidance and lovely staff to make meditation a pleasant experience.
